Prof. Sanjit Kumar MITRA
Present Designation:
Distinguished Emeritus Professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering, University of California Santa BarbaraAreas of Interest:
Image Processing; Digital Signal Processing
Specialisation:
Signal Processing
Major Professional Contributions:
- Advanced a computer-aided method for the design of analog filters using practical components,
- Developed the design of analog filters using resistors, capacitors and operational amplifiers;
- Developed the design of finite-impulse response and infinite impulse response digital filters with the smallest number of multipliers (incorporated in LabVIEW and MATLAB software packages),
- Developed the condition for realizing digital filters with low sensitivity to changes in the multiplier coefficients due to quantization
- Developed the condition for realizing analog filters with low sensitivity to changes in the filter coefficients
- Developed the condition for realizing switched capacitor filters with low sensitivity to changes in the filter coefficients
- Developed a modified version of the conventional time-interleaved analog-to-digital (A/D) converter design for high-speed applications with reduced aliasing effects;
- Patented a novel method for the shaping of communication channel impulse response for reduced interference, licensed by Alcatel/Telettra
- Developed a unified rate-distortion estimation/control algorithm for all typical image/video transform coding systems
- Advanced the design of parametrically tunable second-order digital filters
- Advanced a new method of the removal of impulse noise from corrupted digital images which is significantly superior than existing methods
- Advanced three variations to the widely used discrete Fourier transform (DFT) algorithm: Subband DFT, Warped DFT and Nonuniform DFT along with their practical applications
- Advanced a simple method of designing antenna array systems requiring much smaller number of transmit and receive antenna elements for beam forming applications
