Major Professional Contributions:

1) At C-DOT, successfully steered design and implementation of strategic national telecommunication projects like Centralised Monitoring System (CMS), Secure dedicated Communication Network (SDCN), National Optical Fiber Network (NOFN), Shared GSM Radio Access Network (SGRAN) and Next Generation Networks (NGN). As part of these projects, developed products like Gigabit Passive Optical Network (GPON), Gigabit Router, Terabit Router, Soft switch, Broadband wireless terminal etc. and transferred technology to at least eight manufacturers. Filed three patents in these areas as joint inventor.
2) At Bharat Electronics Ltd(BEL) , as CMD (2007-09) and as Director (Marketing) (2005-07),

• Took BEL to billion dollar turnover level (increase from Rs.32121 million to Rs.46241 million). Improved financial parameters like Profit after Tax, Dividend, Net worth, Earning per share and Value added per employee.
• Got prestigious Navratna PSU status for BEL.
• Brought in Market orientation and gave thrust to exports.
• Finalised Roadmap for the company, (b) increased R&D expenditure from 5 to 10% of turnover and proactively funded Defence Research & Development Organization (DRDO) for development of strategic electronic warfare equipment and Radars ,(c) gave thrust to development of Software Defined Radio (SDR), third generation thermal imaging and (d) encouraged industry –academia cooperation, by establishing a chair for Radar studies at I.I.Sc, Bangalore with a corpus fund of Rs.10 million
• Initiated Business development activities like (a) finalizing MoUs for technical cooperation and formation of joint ventures with Multinational companies (MNCs) (Boeing, Lockheed Martin, Thales, Elbit and Rafael) and (b) Intense interactions with state and commerce departments of USA for technology cooperation.

3) Some of the personal technology achievements are

• Development of products like gigabit Ethernet routers, Wi-Fi terminals & SGRAN
• Conceiving and implementation of an ATM based communication test bed for tactical armed forces of Indian Army.
• Development of B&W TV receiver, color TV receivers and electronic telephone instruments using indigenous ICs for the first time in India.
• Significant contribution in projects like APNET, TO220 power semiconductor manufacturing line, Artillery command control system.
• Development of microprocessor based electrical appliances and TV turners and publishing of 3 papers in Mullard application journals during 1975-76 as CBI scholar at Mullard laboratories of United Kingdom (a Phillips subsidiary).

4) Exhibited significant Corporate Governance skills as Independent Director on the boards of companies like HAL, MDL, ECIL, Vijaya Bank and Astra microwaves etc.

5) Established electronic laboratories at various, Engineering colleges, Polytechnics and ITIs through Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) route.

• Received the prestigious ‘Electronics Man of the year’ award for the year 2007-08 from Electronics Industries Association of India (ELCINA).
• Confederation of British Industry (CBI) awarded ‘CBI Scholar’ in 1976.
