Mr. Venkataramanan has been instrumental in creating the L&T Engineering Brand and building a strong international presence. He is credited with setting up world class modular fabrication facilities within L&T and building offshore installation capabilities which bridged the void in L&T's range of offerings. He established new lines of businesses in key sectors like Power, Defence and Nuclear and also introduced IT-enabled Engineering Service Centres into business to tap global opportunities. He institutionalized Knowledge Management global best practices across L&T. He is credited with transforming the Hydrocarbon business from a fabrication driven EPC contractor to a technology led player..

  • Mr. K. Venkataramanan is currently Non-Executive Chairman of L&T Hydrocarbon Engineering Limited.
  • He is the former Member of the Board & former CEO & MD of Larsen & Toubro Limited (L&T). Mr. Venkataramanan was responsible for the performance of L&T and its subsidiaries.
  • He previously held the position of President, L&T Hydrocarbon Engineering (LTHE) – A wholly owned subsidiary of Larsen & Toubro which delivers integrated Engineering, Procurement, Construction (EPC) solutions to the core sectors across the Hydrocarbon value chain.
  • Other key positions held by Mr. Venkataramanan outside L&T include Chairman of the Capital Goods Committee of FICCI; Chairman of the Capital Goods Skill Council of FICCI; Chairman of the CII Manufacturing Council, CII Oil & Gas Division and CII Boiler & Unfired Pressure Vessels Division.
  • Mr. Venkataramanan was also the chairman of India Tech Foundation and Co-Chairman of Economic Affairs Committee and Infrastructure Committee for Power Sector (BCCI). He was also the Member Governing Council of Petrotech Society for 2008-11.

  • Honorary Doctorate in Project Management from University of Petroleum & Energy Studies (UPES) Dehradun in 2011.

 

Awards and Major Professional Recognitions

  • Mr.Venkataramanan has been conferred the distinguished Alumni Award from IIT Delhi in 2005 and Honorary Fellowship of IChemE – UK in 2011.
  • He has been conferred CEPM –PMA Honorary Fellowship award in 2006 and is also Fellow and former President of Indian Institute of Chemical Engineers (2008) and Indian National Academy of Engineers (1999).
  • Mr. Venkataramanan was honoured with the title of IPMA Level 'A' assessor in 2008 and was the second Indian to receive this title.
  • He was the first Asian to become the Chairman of the Board of Directors of the "Engineering & Construction Risk Institute, Inc.", registered in District of Columbia, USA for a two year term ending in May 2010.
  • The Association of Business Communicators of India (ABCI), India's largest body of professional communicators, presented Mr. Venkataramanan the 'Global Business Communicator Award' in November 2011 for his charismatic ability to reach out to people and transmit thought and idea to diverse target groups.
