Major Professional Contributions:

  • Basic research in modelling and simulation of complex chemical reactions in fixed bed reactors; Hydrodynamics of multiphase reactors; process intensification through zeolite catalysis for the synthesis of macromolecules, organo nitro compounds and polymeric compounds; membrane facilitated water gas shift reaction and catalytic decomposition of CO2.

  • His research group developed 25 chemical processes with high industrial importance in agrochemicals, pharmaceuticals and speciality chemicals. The chemical hazard and risk analysis based on consequence modelling and post accident investigations are areas in which Dr Raghavan has specialized knowledge and expertise. He was closely associated with post accident investigations of Nagothane Gas Cracker Tragedy in 1990. He is currently coordinating an International Programme (CAETS) on Transitioning to Lower Carbon Energy regime: Technology and Engineering Options in Building and Transportation sectors.

  • He published more than 150 research papers, edited 4 books, filed 60+ international/national patents and delivered nearly 100 invited lectures.

Awards and Major Professional Recognitions:

  • Dr Raghavan is the member of the Atomic Energy Regulatory Board and Heavy Water Board of Department of Atomic Energy, Govt. of India. He is the Chairman of the Research Council of CLRI, Chennai and the member of R&D Apex Committee of Ministry of Environment and Forests.

  • Dr Raghavan is the Past President of AP Akademi of Sciences and Indian Institute of Chemical Engineers.

  • Dr Raghavan is currently Vice President (International Cooperation) of INAE and member of the CAETS Energy Committee. He is the Chairman of the International Organising Committee of CAETS Convocation – 2015. He is also the Working President of the Federation of Asian Biotech Associations and Chairman of the Organising Committee of BioAsia which is its flagship international event.
