Major Professional Contributions:

I have worked 29 years in Vikram Sarabhai Space Center, ISRO and Defence Research and Development laboratory, DRDO on various practical aerodynamic and propulsion problems related to sounding rockets, satellite launch vehicles, strategic and tactical missiles. Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) was used as a tool in solving many design problems. Both commercial and indigenous CFD codes were used for providing reliable data to the designer and contributed very significantly in reducing the developmental cost and time of the mission. Indigenous CFD codes were developed and commercial CFD codes were validated extensively before using them in design exercises.

Professional Experience:

  • Scientist/Engineer in VSSC/ISRO Thiruvananthapuram from 1986 to 2001. Involved in Aerodynamic design and analysis of various sounding rockets and satellite launch vehicles of ISRO
  • Scientist 'F' in DRDL/DRDO from November, 2001 to June'2007. Set up the Computational Combustion Dynamics (CCD) division to start numerical simulation of turbulent reacting Flow.
  • Scientist 'G' from July, 2007 till date. As Technology Director of Directorate of Computational Dynamics (DOCD), I am guiding and participating in the numerical simulation of nonreacting and reacting flow problems for aerodynamic and propulsion characterization of various ongoing and future missiles of DRDO.

  • Ph.D in Aerospace Engineering from Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore, India in 1999. Title of the thesis "Confined Reacting Supersonic Mixing Layer – A DNS Study with Analysis of Turbulence and Combustion Models".
  • M.Tech in Computational Mechanics from Indian Institute of Technology, Kharagpur India in 1986. Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) 10/10. Title of the thesis "Finite Volume Computation of Supersonic Inviscid and Viscous Flow Past Axisymmetric Configurations at zero Angle of Attack".
  • M.Sc in Applied Mathematics from Jadavpur University in 1983. Rank 1st.

  • Awarded Aerospace Engineering Division prize for the paper "Numerical prediction of Surface heat flux during multiple jet firing for missile control" by Institute of Engineers (India), 2013.
  • The paper "Numerical simulation of scramjet combustor flow field" was awarded the Second Best paper in the technical session of 54th AGM of Aeronautical Society of India.
  • Sri S. R. Bando Gold Medal for securing the highest aggregate marks among all the courses of Master of Science Examination (Jadavpur University) in 1983.
