Major Professional Contributions:

Prof Chandra Shakher has invented applications of Talbot interferometry, speckle shearing interferometry, Lau phase interferometry and digital holographic interferometry for measurement of temperature and temperature profile of gaseous flames. Further, he has developed speckle noise reduction techniques which were advantageously applied for reducing speckle noise in DSPI fringes and in digital holography.

He has also developed holographic optical elements (HOEs) on photo-resist and dichromatic gelatin. He has demonstrated the use of these lenses in speckle metrology, white light imaging and solar energy concentration.

He is the inventor of laser based alignment system using Talbot effect for its use in power generating and other industries, magneto-optic current sensor to measure high currents on high voltage and extra high voltage (HV/EHV) lines and monitoring system to monitor online silica in power station waters.

In addition to this he has developed coherent optical metrology laboratory in Instrument Design Development Centre, Indian Institute of Technology Delhi..
