Major Professional Contributions:

Baidurya Bhattacharya works on the fundamental constructs of mechanics and their applications in solving engineering problems. His knowledge of material degradation, stochastic simulations and probabilisticmechanics into structural engineering problems has resulted in improved load modelling,damage detection, system identification, seismic reliability, and has contributed to design equationsfor prestressed members, nuclear power plant shells, ships, offshore vessels and aging bridges. His work on heat transport in small scale systems has led to improved understandingof non-equilibrium statistical mechanics. These include new temperature control algorithms, a phononic explanation of friction, and efficient estimation of free energies.
